How to Take Care of Yourself as a Hypertension Patient

Causes of Hypertension

Until now, the exact cause of hypertension is still unknown. However, there are several factors that can increase the risk of the occurrence of the deadly disease. Among them:

Age over 65 years
Overweight
Family history with hypertension
Lack of exercise
Excessive consumption of salt, caffeine and alcohol
Lack of vegetable and fruit intake
Smoking habit
Controlling Hypertension

To control hypertension disease, the patient must change his lifestyle by :


  • Lose weight to an ideal limit.
  • Limit salt intake to no more than 6 grams or equivalent to ¼-½ teaspoon per day.
  • Avoid alcoholic beverages, caffeine, and cigarettes.
  • Exercise regularly and regularly, with frequency 3-4 times a week.
  • Monitoring blood pressure regularly, by checking into the nearest health center.


In addition to the already mentioned, people with hypertension should also avoid the following foods:


  • Canned foods and drinks, such as soft drinks, sardines, sausages, and corned beef.
  • Foods with high saturated fat, such as red meat, milk, fried foods, and other greasy and fatty foods.
  • Processed foods use sodium salt, such as biscuits, chips and salty dried foods.
  • Preserved foods, such as pickled, shredded, salted fish, and salted eggs.
  • Full cream milk, cheese, mayonnaise, egg yolk, and chicken skin.
  • Alcohol and foods containing alcohol, such as durian or tape.

If the above tips are not fully successful, people with hypertension or high blood pressure is advised to see a doctor to get the appropriate medication. Early treatment also helps prevent the occurrence of complications that can threaten the lives of patients.
