More Sweating During Exercise, More Calories Burned. Is it true?

Sekainow.com  Many choose to exercise while hot-panasan under the hot sun in order to sweat a lot. The reason, there is the assumption that the more sweat that comes out the sign of a successful body burns large amounts of calories. Actually not always like that, you know! How much sweat you spend during exercise does not necessarily mean the body has burned more calories.

A lot of sweat is not a sign of success burning more calories

Sweating is a cooling process done by the body to help you maintain optimal body temperature. But sweating is not an ideal benchmark to determine how strong the intensity of exercise you are.

Exercise can increase body temperature, so you may sweat more. A small study conducted on 20 cyclist athletes found that exercising in hot temperatures can help increase the production of sweat so that the process of cooling the body and increasing blood flow to the skin better. But, a little or a lot of sweat is not the same as the number of calories burned.

What affects the amount of sweat while exercising ?

Each person produces sweat in different amounts. For example, women have more number of sweat glands than men, but men's sweat glands tend to work more actively. That is, men naturally sweat faster and more than women even though the number of sweat glands that are activated equally as well as the intensity of temperature and physical activity is also equally.

People who are fit, for example, can sweat faster during exercise because their body temperature is lower than those who are sedentary (less mobile). People who rarely exercise or never exercise before are more likely to sweat more during physical activity because their bodies heats up faster.

Overweight people also produce excessive sweating than individuals with normal weight because fat acts as a heat conductor (insulator) that raises the body's core temperature. Young people sweat more than parents.

In addition, how much you sweat depends on several other things outside your body. Wearing synthetic material clothes while exercising will trap heat in the body, which will make you swell faster and sweat.

The more sweat the weight goes down ?

Not necessarily. Once again emphasized that the amount of sweat can not be used as a benchmark how successful the body burns calories. The decreased weight gain soon after exercise is only temporary, as it is caused by the sweat that evaporates. The original weight will come back when you have been hydrated, and it does not mean you have burned more calories.

On the other hand, do not assume that exercise with a slight sweat means you are not exercising hard enough or have not burned many calories. Your sweat may evaporate quickly because you are exercising in an air-conditioned room, near a fan, or outdoors with a cool atmosphere and lots of gentle breezes.

What should you do if you want to exercise in hot temperatures ?

Make sure you are hydrated well before exercising and also continue to drink throughout the sports session. Listen to your body and rest when you feel too tired so you can adjust to temperature and intensity correctly.

If you exercise more than 60 minutes or exercise with high intensity, the researcher recommends that you replace the lost fluids with a drink containing electrolytes. If you exercise or exercise with an intensity that is not too heavy or lasts less than 60 minutes, replacing the lost fluid with water is good enough for your body.
